Vettel beats Hamilton to pole in dramatic Belgian qualifying

Sebastian Vettel is on pole again, after winning the battle in an eventful qualifying session at Belgium.

Sebastian Vettel took another pole position at Spa-Fracorchamps, beating Mclaren's Lewis Hamilton on a track which Red Bull are supposed to be weak at. Mark Webber in the second Red Bull is 3rd, while Felipe Massa put his Ferrari in an impressive 4th. Nico Rosberg will be hoping for a strong start after getting 5th for Mercedes. However, the two performers of the day were Jaime Alguersuari, who put his Toro Rosso in an exceptional 6th, and Bruno Senna, who replaces Nick Heidfeld at Renault, in 7th. They both outqualified Fernando Alonso's Ferrari, which is 8th.

Michael Schumacher, celebrating his 20th anniversary since making his Formula One debut, will set off at the rear of the grid after losing a wheel and crashing in Q1. Hamilton set out on Q3 with his car patched up with tape after the 2008 champion was involved in a controversial incident with Williams' Pastor Maldonado who deliberately took a swipe at the Briton's car. A strategy error cost Hamilton's teammate Jenson Button a place in the top ten after the winner in Hungary last time out trailed in 13th in Q2.

UPDATE: Pastor Maldonado given 5-place grid drop, demoting him to 21st. Lewis Hamilton given a reprimand but no further action.
